A Brief
introduction to the band: JOWAR:
Jowar is a leading Bengali Folk band founded by Goutam
Brahma, which imbues an element of folk in its music. Jowar
always encourages contemporary topics that hit the headlines as the content of
the lyrics of their songs under the
project News-in-Muse.
The Band appropriately showcases the harmony of traditional folk culture of
takes the research work on Bengali folk music into its stride. Jowar is perhaps the only musical band which associates
itself with different socio cultural events and issues. Jowar
has composed two numbers on tiger reservation, exclusively
for WWF-Kolkata.
Jowar has ushered a new genre of folk and contemporary lyrics and has
already cut a niche for itself. It's a perfect blend
of our old heritage with present-day wordings. The motto of composing songs
with news items is to keep the facts or
burning issues alive which otherwise would have died a natural death in the
arms of newsprints under the
project, News
in Muse.
Jowar acts as a socio-cultural forum through which
not only traditional folk music reaches urban people but also brings to
peoples notice various social issues like Child Right, under privileged
children, tiger reservation and many more.
The overwhelming success of Ole Ole the number especially composed for World Cup Football 2006, triggered Jowars
enthusiasm to launch their first album Jowar Elo. The second album Tomake Bhasabei Bhasabe was launched in 2007.
